I bought this because I wanted stability for general photography but easy to throw in a backpack and carry around. Meaning I'm much more likely to grab a monopod for just in case situations then a bulky tripod.
The reason I bought this modle from Vanguard is two fold, what its made of and how its made. The first reason, what. Its all aluminum (save the foam rubber handgrip and the rubber in the locking cuffs). So this thing is never going to break under normal conditions or ware. The second reason, how its made. Of all the monopods I looked at before this use clips to hold the sections in place, having owned several tripods that use similar clipsI know that if anything would break it would be those. My number one reason for buying this was because it doesn't use clips that can get snagged, bent, caught, or quickly wear out etc. If you've ever used a monopod/tripod that use these type of fasteners then you know how easy they can get caught on things (in/out of a bag) and how they can even become unlocked during transport/stowage. This model uses cuffs (also made of aluminum) that you easily tighten or lossen to secure the segments.
After playing around with this for a day I would predict that due to its great build quality (for its price) this item will be part of my camera equipment for many many years.
If you're looking for something in this price range and you're an amateur photographer (or a thrifty pro) then this is a great model.
